This page will explain how underinsurance and uninsured motorist insurance (UIM) work and how you can access it to get compensation for an accident claim. We will also look at examples of recent settlements and verdicts in actual auto accident cases involving UIM claims.

What is Uninsured Motorist Coverage?

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) is the part of your auto insurance policy that is supposed to pay for losses or damages caused by another driver when that at-fault driver either: (a) has no insurance, or (b) does not have enough insurance to cover all of your damages. The best way to help you understand how UIM coverage works is with hypothetical examples.

Both sides, plaintiffs and defendants, filed their separate objections seeking to exclude the expert testimony of the scientists retained by the other side. This post will summarize the defendants’ Daubert objections for and motions to exclude the opinions of the plaintiffs’ experts. The sudden force of an impact experienced during vehicle collisions can cause drivers and occupants to suffer concussion injuries. When an accident happens, anyone inside the care will experience a very strong and abrupt head movement caused by impact force. This sudden and forceful movement is what results in concussions as it causes the brain to strike the inside of the skull. Accident scenarios which commonly result in concussions include:

  • Direct Impact: Direct impact occurs when the head of a driver or passenger strikes part of the car’s interior during the accident, such as the steering wheel, dashboard, window, etc. When the head has a direct impact during an accident it tends to cause more serious concussions, as well as visible external injuries to the head.
  • Whiplash: Whiplash refers to the very sudden and forceful back-and-forth movement of the head, neck, and shoulders that drivers and occupants experience in a sudden impact. This movement causes the brain to bounce around inside the skull, hitting the interior of the cranium and bruising the brain.

Defective tires can cause serious motor vehicle accidents. When a defective tire suddenly and unexpectedly fails or blows out at high speed on the road the results can be catastrophic for drivers and passengers. Auto accidents caused by defective tires can cause serious injuries and even death.

Individuals who are seriously harmed in an auto or truck accident that was caused by defective tires can get financial compensation from for their losses by filing a defective tire lawsuit against the manufacturer. This page will discuss product liability cases involving defective tires and what the potential settlement value of these cases is.
