A New Jersey boy who suffered a beyond tragic brain injury after getting hit by a line drive while he was playing in a little league baseball game has reached a settlement that will pay him and his family $14.5 million. The settling defendants were Hillerich and Bradsby (the manufacturers of the Louisville Slugger), the Sports Authority, and Little League baseball.
It is a good resolution to an awful case. How would a jury have decided this case? I don’t know. How would I have voted if I were on the jury in this case? From what I know of the evidence, I just don’t know.
ESPN has a story on the settlement. Read the comments. Most are very anti-lawsuit. One thing the commenters pointed to is the same question I had: how is the Sports Authority involved? I can’t imagine they contributed much to the settlement.
