Maxipime Seizure Warning

The FDA has put out a notice to doctors concerning the antibacterial drug cefepime (marketed as Maxipime), warning them to be especially careful with dosages for patients with kidney impairment. Some of those patients are susceptible to developing a type of seizure called nonconvulsive status epilepticus while on cefeprime, particularly when their doctors have not adjusted the dose in consideration of their kidney problems. The FDA is recommending that patients with impaired kidney function who are put on cefepime receive no more than 60 mL/min.
