General Motors has announced the recall of close to 69,000 pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans as they can roll away unexpectedly. That’s, ah, not good.
Affected by this recall are certain 2013 Chevrolet Silverado models, as well as certain 2013 Suburban models, Tahoe, Avalanche, and Express. Also included are the CMC Sierra, Savana, Yukon, and the Cadillac Escalade.
GM has announced that the vehicles may have been built with faulty park lock cables, or malformed steering column lock gears. Even if the ignition key is in the off position or removed, it is possible that the vehicles can be shifted out of park. Approximately one in 1,000 of the vehicles has this defect, most of which haven’t been sold yet.
No crashes or injuries are known to date.
