GE Recalls Front Load Washers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of GE Profile Front Load Washers, due to a possible injury hazard.

Approximately 62,000 washing machine units are being recalled as it has been discovered that the washer’s basket can separate during use, and break the washer’s top panel. To date, GE has received nineteen reports of washer baskets separating, and 10 reports of top panel breakage.

GE Profile frontload washing machines that are affected by this recall begin with one of the following model numbers:

  • WPDH8800
  • WPDH8900
  • WPDH8910

All serial numbers with these models are included in this recall. The model number is located on the washer’s right side, near the bottom and behind the door near the door frame visible when the door is opened. The washers sold nationwide from July 2008 through August 2011. Consumers can contact GE for a free repair.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the problem.
