Howard Citron, a defense medical malpractice lawyer in Fort Lauderdale that writes a good blog, wrote last week about web sites that review medical doctors. I share his concerns about these websites that review doctors.
At first glance, everything that improves patient information is a good thing. The problem with these review websites is that the squeakiest and the most insane wheels get the most oil. More importantly, that same person can submit reviews as multiple people so if you have an ax to grind, you can destroy a doctor on the site.
I’m not saying that—on balance—they are not a good thing, but I’m certainly wary of these kinds of sites and concerned about the possibility of a good doctor’s reputation being smeared by one disgruntled patient.
