Car dealers across the country claim in a new lawsuit that they are being ripped off by Carfax.
Car dealerships are getting ripped off. This is not a typo. Let’s all take in a little schadenfreude.
Plaintiffs’ lawsuits complain that Carfax’s exclusivity agreements effectively means car dealers selling cars on those sites can only show history reports from Carfax, which chills competition in violation of our antitrust laws.
The irony of it all is that Carfax has its own problems. Far too often, the car’s report is just plain wrong. So a company with a bad record of doing all that their business is supposed to do is matched up against a business that has been ripping us off since Henry Ford. Who are we supposed to root for?
