Let’s call a spade a spade: Pfiser does not want these Chantix suicide cases going to trial. The second Chantix bellwether reached a settlement during a pretrial conference on Tuesday.
This was not one of the great plaintiff’s Chantix cases. If Pfiser was going to try one, this would be a good one to try. Plaintiff alleged that Chantix caused him insomnia, anxiety, depression, and then he had suicidal ideations – which means you are thinking about killing yourself. Honestly, if I’m Pfiser, I’m letting that case go to trial and see what a jury thinks. Instead, Pfiser settled the case.
Pfiser is walking a careful line here. It does not want to take a verdict because that is going to increase the value of the Chantix claims. But they are also sounding a loud message to plainitffs’ lawyers that you don’t need a completed suicide to have value for your claim.
I think it is now fair to say that the Chantix suicide cases have real settlement value. If you believe you may have a Chantix wrongful death suicide or injury case, call 800-553-8082, or get a free online case evaluation here.
